This royal palace is the summer residence of the Danish royal family and serves as a venue for important state visits and family events. Built as a country seat for Frederik IV, construction began in 1719. Elegant Baroque architecture and expansive, meticulously designed gardens and park. Guided tour of the palace and gardens is included. The main axis, Brede Allé, that originates from the garden hall of the Palace, was restored and re-opened in 2013. The Orangery was built in 1995 as an extension of the Kitchen Garden.

Once a grand Italianate manor with Capability Brown lake, a massive Victorian parterre surrounded by parkland, the estate plunged into decline in 1870 and was abandoned in 1905. The manor was dynamited in 1911; all that remains is the porte-cochere and four lovely loggias. Finally, a ‘dream team’ of designers, Piet Oudolf and Tom Stuart-Smith were engaged in 1996 to rejuvenate the garden with an imaginative and contemporary design.
