ITINERARY
Travel along the picturesque New South Wales South Coast from Sydney to Narooma with Sandra Ross to discover the diverse gardens, coastal landscapes, idyllic lakes and the endemic bushland of the New South Wales coastline.

DAY 1
Saturday 9 October 2021
Central to Gerringong (D)

First stop on our southward journey is the Open Garden Weekend in Robertson. Gates will be open to showcase the beauty and variety of the cool-climate gardens, set in beautiful surroundings, some with sweeping views of the surrounding rolling hills.
Travel to Gerringong with our Welcome dinner included this evening.

Accommodation: Mercure Gerringong Resort, Gerringong

DAY 2
Sunday 10 October 2021
Gerringong to Batemans Bay (B/L/D)

Two ‘designer’ gardens today; the first at Lake Tabourie.
Where once only stood 3 big eucalypts and 875m2 of grass around a sad beige asbestos featureless house is now a colourful reimagined welcoming lakeside home. The house is now wrapped in abundant native gardens linked by timber boardwalks, and distinctively detailed timber and steel fences and arbours.
A very new native garden on Burrill Lake. A dilapidated asbestos cottage that was literally sinking into the lake, has been totally rebuilt. The roadside garden is an ode to the ramble of the cottage gardens, done entirely with native plants, whilst the lakeside garden is a contemporary flourish of simplicity taking its cue directly from the view that it is the foreground to. Travel on to Batemans Bay, our accommodation for the next two nights.

Accommodation: Lincoln Downs Resort, Batemens Bay

DAY 3
Monday 11 October 2021
Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden (B/L/D)

We will discover the beautiful Eurobodalla coast today and the National Park.
Morning visit to Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden, much of which is covered with natural forest. Display gardens exhibit flora from the ‘Gardens Collecting Region’, demonstrating its species diversity.
Local produce for lunch today at SAGE, a not-for-profit, community based organisation whose mission is to create and support a NSW South Coast sustainable fair food economy and food sovereignty for local communities.

Accommodation: Lincoln Downs Resort, Batemens Bay

DAY 4
Tuesday 12 October 2021
Batemans to Narooma (B/D)

Learn about the life and times of Thomas Sutcliffe Mort, in particular his dairying interest at Bodalla.
Travel to Horse Island to discover the Bodalla Estate. From its origin as the property of 19th-century pastoralist and industrialist Thomas Sutcliffe Mort to its present ownership by Trevor and Christina Kennedy. The garden is landscaped exclusively with native and endemic plants, which complement elegant colonial era buildings.
Afternoon visit to the former Rectory of Samuel Mort’s All Saints Church built in 1880, designed by Edmund Blacket. This garden has recently undergone extensive changes.

Accommodation: The Whale Motor Inn, Narooma

DAY 5
Wednesday 13 October 2021
Narooma to Kiama (B/D)

Travel to the Shoalhaven with a stop in Huskisson for lunch.
Experience the transformative power of the Shoalhaven landscape this afternoon as we travel to Arthur Boyd’s Bundanon which is located on 1,100 hectares of pristine bushland overlooking the Shoalhaven River. Our guide will show us Bundanon Homestead and Arthur Boyd’s studio and gardens.
Arthur and Yvonne Boyd gifted Bundanon, including its properties and collections, to the Australian people in 1993. This unique gift is a cultural and environmental asset, borne out of Arthur Boyd’s often stated belief that ‘you can’t own a landscape’ and his deeply felt wish that others might also draw inspiration from Bundanon.

Accommodation: The Sebel Kiama Harbourside, Kiama

DAY 6
Thursday 14 October 2021
Kangaroo Valley (B/L)

Kangaroo Valley is our destination today where locals boast of the invigorative and recuperative powers of the valley. Rich green pastures, sparkling creeks and rivers and lush rainforest are all guarded by the magnificent escarpments which enclose it.
Two private gardens will open for us today.

Accommodation: The Sebel Kiama Harbourside,

DAY 7
Friday 15 October 2021
Berry Garden Festival (B/D)

Berry has all the hallmarks of an historic country town – only better. Classy cafes, ‘hatted’ restaurants and sophisticated shopping; it’s the perfect blend of village charm and city style.

The Berry Garden Festival is in full swing with eight private gardens opening their gates. You will see the best of them this morning with free time in Berry this afternoon.
Return to Kiama with our final dinner included this evening.

Accommodation: The Sebel Kiama Harbourside,

DAY 8
