Wednesday 29 September 2021
Beecroft – Mt Tomah

The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah is the only botanic garden in Australia located within a UNESCO World Heritage Area. At 1,000 metres above sea level, Mt Tomah is an exquisite cold climate garden with diverse, highly endemic vegetation. The garden is home to rare and precious collections including some botanical gems such as the Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis). We’re travelling to the Blue Mountains today to learn how Mt Tomah, and the surrounding bushland, have recovered from this year’s devastating bushfires.

Your day with Graham Ross starts at Central Railway Station or at our office in Beecroft, where you board the bus and head up the Bells Line Road into the Blue Mountains. Mt Tomah is our first stop, where you’ll join Graham for a guided tour through the garden. With insights from Graham and other local experts, you’ll learn how the bush and the gardens are recovering and how the horticulturists are supporting the natural regeneration process. Lunch is at nearby Wildwood Garden, the gorgeous garden of Graham’s great friends, Wayne & Sue Tapping. Wildwood mixes exotic collections of blooming camellias, vibrant maples and cool climate perennials in a stunning mountain setting. This beautiful and serene garden is a perfect place to stop and relax for lunch. There’s time to shop at Wildwood’s specialist nursery. On the way home, we’ll stop in at Bilpin to buy fresh, local produce and support local businesses. This is a great day out for any plant lover!
